Sukhoi-Superjet-100-Halim-Perdanakusuma

I was at Jayapura, Papua (9th May, 2012) when heard the news about Sukhoi aircraft missing in Indonesia. In my first imagination, the missing airplane should be a fighter jet owned by Indonesian Air Force. But, after read the aircraft type Sukhoi Superjet 100, then I remembered that this is a regional jet for civil aviation.

I still sad with many accident on pioneer flights in Papua last year, and I just hope the aircraft and passengers will be found as soon as possible :(

Why Javanese People Take a Handful of Soil When Moved?

One of the Javanese tradition when someone move to a new house is take a handful of soil from the homeland to the new house and then spread of soil on the home page. The elder people said that this tradition will make people who moved in new house will be feel at home.

Don’t be provocated by the post title. Of course not all Javanese people did that. Today maybe just minority of people stil use the tradition. I searched on Google but don’t find anything about this tradition, so I write this to start a discussion, so we can share the practice in our culture. How about yours?

How to Monetize Mobile Website Traffic

From my previous post about increase of mobile traffic to some of my websites, mobile traffic is the future of internet, and the future is now.

With the new technology and capability of smart phone, it’s possible to add multimedia ads (picture, sound) in mobile website or blog. From my personal experience, I use Admob (then migrated to Google Adsense), and Inmobi to monetize the mobile website traffic. The revenue of mobile web traffic is about 10% compared by regular traffic, but I think it’s better than no revenue at all. Beside that, provide mobile interface is good way to engage with your potential customers.

The next problem now, some mobile browsing technology use their own proxy, so many users with same browser come from the same IP address. For example, mobile users with Opera Mini and Blackberry (BIS), their access is identified come from Opera and Blackberry gateway, and Inmobi and Adsense won’t show ads from the Opera Mini and Blackberry (BIS) visitors. So, the next question is: how to monetize Opera Mini and Blackberry traffic?

Increase of Mobile Traffic

Most people around me now use smartphone with internet connection. When I checked the data from my websites that have mobile interface, in the begin of this month I got data that make me surprised. The visitors to my website is dropped in the significant amount. After I checked again, our visitor is increased, but the portion of mobile users is increased with 42 percent of mobile visitors.

The next problem is, mobile visitors rarely click the ads in the website, so the revenue from advertising dropped. But this is the future! People go mobile and everything should can to accessed by mobile devices.
